I guess the debate is between something that they can take home that night - like a bouquet and something that might stay in the office and have a long lasting appeal - like an arrangment or a flowering plant. 

probably not much point in giving  a gift for the office if given late in the week though so maybe the thoughtful boss would give early in the week.
