We didn't ever try this so have no idea how it might go.
Cheers

Thanks so much...do u hv any idea about the global sales being done each year by the Online flower industry......?

I have no idea really.  I did see a paper done by a US firm which, as I recall, suggested about 1/2 of the long distance work previously done by florists was now being done by other parties.  Some of these would be on-line order gathers, some work sent directly to the supplying florist by consumers using the search engines to find the florist.

3  General Category / United Kingdom General Discussion / Relay service membership restrictions on: May 02, 2007, 07:07:15 AM
It seems that the three largest relay services in the UK all have quite restrictive membership arrangements compared to most other countries.  Elsewhere, florists are generally free to join any relay service, Internet directory etc that they like.  But in the UK, Interflora and Teleflora florists (and as I understand it, Flowergram on a less restrictive basis) can't - thereby limiting their potential income streams - and their ability to make their own choices.

However, Caroline Marshall-Foster, Editor of trade magazine 'Florist Wholesale Buyer" has taken up the cudgels on behalf of UK florists and is taking the fight for freedom to the relay services via her magazine.

Well done Caroline!

I don't know if it is my computer but the spell check in the forum comes up in a small screen and I have to scroll all the time - quite annoying.  I tend to use the spell checker in the Google bar or FireFox instead because of that.

We find that your sales will depend largely on how good you are at getting your website found.
The backend that you use (e.g. 1800Flowers) can only convert sales leads that your marketing has brought to your site.
In terms of affiliation, depending on what countires you want to cover, Petals can probably help you with Australia, NZ and England at least. see www.petalsnet.com for more info on that.

8  General Category / Suggestions / Maps in German on: April 29, 2007, 09:44:49 AM
HI
When I click on the map link in the business directory, the maps are in German?
Is there an English language version of the mapping tools?
9  General Category / General Discussion / Re: Whats the most common Mothers Day Flower? on: April 29, 2007, 09:41:44 AM
We don't see a focus on any single type of flower like you see for Valentines Day.
It seems to depend a lot on the destination - arrangements for the home, bouquets if the family is out for a meal etc.

One of the 'good' things about MD is that recipients are;
  • almost always glad to see the flowers (see comment below) and
    de
liveries can be made during the run up to MD rather than all on the day as is the case for VD

We often see an outbreak of what we call "mother-in-law" flowers where daughter in law (DIL) sends flowers, mother in law (MIL) tells her they were 'awful', we call MIL and there was no problem.  i suspect the flowers could be gold-plated and MIL would still not like what DIL has sent.  Smiley

Public holiday means florists will be closed
11  General Category / Australian General Discussion / Re: Secretary Week April 22-28th What to give??? on: April 22, 2007, 09:31:30 AM
I guess the debate is between something that they can take home that night - like a bouquet and something that might stay in the office and have a long lasting appeal - like an arrangment or a flowering plant.

probably not much point in giving  a gift for the office if given late in the week though so maybe the thoughtful boss would give early in the week.
12  General Category / Suggestions / Changing profile on: April 08, 2007, 04:47:34 PM
I went off to change my profile.
See there is reference to build 'connections' there but no text talking about what that does.
What are the plans for that & what does it do?

The comments about the rules for for using the forum look like they still need some work.
I am hoping it doesn't get filled up with spam and advertising
14  General Category / General Discussion / Where is the photo gallery going? on: April 08, 2007, 04:40:20 PM
I am a bit puzzled by the photo gallery in Bloomsta.
It seems to have a few photos but its not clear what to do with them.
I tried clicking allover the place to no avail .
I put in a comment but it seems to have disappeared into thin air.

I guess this might be an area where lots of things could happen;
  • shots of shops and the people running them because you usually don't know other people in a relay network for example.
maybe we could have some master classes on how to do specialist arrangements.
also I guess there are very different styles of loser arranging in different countries. I t would be interesting
to have (say) a German, a UK a south American display section

any other thoughts from users or from Bloomsta about how to make the gallery a bit more interesting?

PS. don't know if it just my system but the spell checker is annoying when it doesn't show up in a full screen and you have to scroll allover the place.  Aslo doesn't know how to spell Bloomsta  Smiley
15  General Category / General Discussion / Are there special types of flowers for Easter? on: April 05, 2007, 04:39:13 PM
Do florists find any special types of flowers or types of presentation sell better for Easter. We have roses for Val. Day, chrissies (maybe) for Mother's Day, red and green for Xmas.

Are there types of flowers for Easter.  Or, is it just flowers with Easter chocs that sell?
